Media's Responsibility

In the past couple of days, everyone in the world were in front of TV and were watching what is happening in Mumbai.

Every TV channel wants to bring everything LIVE to people in the name of Media Freedom which I think is not correct. Under Live Telecast they were re-telecasting damages leading to confusion and many people thought that fresh violence is breakout.

It is learnt that Terrorist group were watching all movements from Pakistan and the same is conveyed to their team who where inside Taj Hotel over sate. phone.

This has not happened this time only but also when last time there was bomb blast in Delhi.

Without considering the seriousness they are telecasting everything whether it may be true or false. Certainly such coverage of action will give benefit to culprit to move and change their strategy. Also during Delhi blast, they repeatedly showing the poor balloon vendor again and again stating that he is having clue on the person who kept the bomb bag in the dustbin. These media people will forget one activity and will search and move to other incident but who is going to take care of the poor people who were highlighted by the media further ?

Media should feel their own responsibility or otherwise government should take quick view on this and should ban such coverages in future.

End of Long Wait

It was a long wait for me about 27 years that ended today, the 29th day of November 2008. Yes I too become part of Indian democracy by taking part in public election and Voted for the first time in my life.

I become eligible to vote in general elections when I turn 21 years in 1981 and when I was in Cuddalore. But till the time I was at Cuddalore, there was no election held and I could not vote. I left for Nagpur in 1984 and was there till July '85 and could not vote. After that I was in Mumbai and I could not register myself as a Voter as frequently we were shifting our house.

I came to Delhi in the end of 1991 and try to include my name in voter list. When the list was prepared, we moved to Sarojini Nagar from RKPuram and again missed out. Anyhow Raji could able to get a photo Id card in Sarojini Nagar but it was not delivered to me stating some reasons. I went round Election Commission office many time but I could not get the same. We were in Vashist Park for about 3 years but all my try to include in voter list could not succeed for one or other reason.

Again we made a try when I came to our own house in Vikaspuri 3 years back. Went for photograph 3 to 4 times but fate was so strong that it could not mature and my name was not included in the list and Id card was not issued. There was an advertisement asking to register on-line and everything will be completed by visit of official to the house itself. I did it but same result. No response. I gave up my try. There was again an advertisement in June 08 this year in news paper asking to submit residence Proof and photo to election officer and care will be taken !! When I was not ready for the same, Raji asked me to make a final try. Self and Raji went and submit the same. To my surprise, I got my Voter Id card this time. Yes it was delivered to my house and my name was included in Vikaspuri Constituency !!

Today(29th Nov 2008), I searched for my name on-line at CEO, Delhi site and found I have to go to Oxford school to cast my vote.

Self and Raji went to pooling booth at about 1300 hrs. There was no rush and only 2 more were standing to vote. My identity was verified, ink mark made on the finger and I was asked to cast my vote.

I went near the EVM and after looking for the symbol and candidate name, I pressed the blue button for a second and my vote was registered in favour of @#$%&*
Yes I too took part in the process of selection of MLA for the first time in my life. My wait to cast vote in public election fulfilled after a wait of 27 years.

Meeta Roti

It is one more simple variety of Roti (சப்பாத்தி) which is liked especially by children.
Prepare சப்பாத்தி மாவு in normal way by adding required salt. Take small quantity of Sugar and grind it into powder in mixie. Take required quantity of சப்பாத்தி மாவு and make it into small round வட்டு. Spread one spoon of sugar powder over this வட்டு. Fold it into 1/4th. Remake this into a full round சப்பாத்தி. Bake it as usual in the "Thava". Meeta Roti தயார்.

School Day Function

Sujani’s School Day function on 16th Nov 2008

Oxford school where Sujani and Sandhya are reading now celebrated school day y’day. Both of them contributed their role in the function.

Both of them started talking about the function right from the day their name is included in the list. Initially Sujani’s name was included and in turn she recommended Sandhya’s name and Sandhya was also included. Condition made that Sandhya should take active participation and should not avoid coming for practice.

Final Practice day was on Saturday as function was scheduled on Sunday. School declared holiday on both days and asked participants to come to school at 1330 hours on Saturday.

Right from Thursday onwards planning started by Sujani and Sandhya on what they have to take along with them to eat. Many items put forward and at last it was decided that Sujani will take Meeta Roti and Sandhya will bring Sandwich.

Both of them made themselves ready by 1300 hours and phone calls started exchanging between them to know whether they are ready or not. Sandhya asked Sridhar to took her and leave in our house by 1315 hours. Sujani not allowed me to go for sleep after lunch and asked me to start by 1325 hours. It was communicated to me several times that I have to come to school at 1950 hours and the way I have to reach Bio lab where they will be waiting after practice. I left both of them at 1330 hours and went back at 1950 hours to pick them back. Abilash also was there to take Sandhya to home. They were given with Apple and Biscuits by school authority.

Sunday started with first SMS from Sandhya enquiring whether Sujani got up or not. There were about 5 continuous SMSs exchanged between me and Sandhya on this. When Sujani got up again discussion started on what to be taken in the lunch box. When Sujani saw her dress was not ironed properly, Raji asked her to take it to the Society Gate where Iron-Wala stays to get it ironed. No question or no word. Immediately she was ready to go to get it ironed.

They were asked to come to school at 1430 hours but again there was exchange of SMSs to get ready immediately right from 1230 onwards. Sujani asked me to take her to Sridhar’s house and Sandhya made arrangement with Sridhar that he has to take them to school.

It was about 1300 hours. Sujani worn uniform dress and told us this set of uniform is tight and not looking nice. I told her it is nice and anyhow she will be wearing coat over that so that nobody will see it. Sruthi gave justification that now-a-day wearing dress tightly is fashion. Raji for her side said if dress is tight, she will not feel cold. Somehow we made Sujani to go ahead with the same dress and asked her to complete her makeup. She was ready with dressed up, Aloo Barota to eat, water bottle and school book to read in spare time!

I took Sujani to Sridhar’s house at 1400 hours and Sandhya was waiting down and asked me to drop at School as Sridhar was not ready and will take another 5 min for him to get ready. They don’t want to waste the time and I dropped them at School.. They asked me to come to school at 1645 hours itself or otherwise we won’t get seat to sit. Also they asked us to bring the invitation card without fail without which they will not allow us inside. Sujani asked me to take Sruthi also along with us somehow as in the invitation they mentioned that they will allow only 2 people!

We, self, Raji and Sruthi reached school at about 1800 hours and we got comfortable seat. Sridhar, Chitra and Abi joined us in the next 5 minutes. Function just started and one of the teachers was reading annual report that was followed by prize distribution.

Cultural program started by 1930 hours and contains variety of items like song, Dance, Drama etc. The arrangement made by the staff was wonderful it was very nice to see systematically they changed the stage with sets in no time – without any confusion -- without any delay. Lighting arrangements were excellent.

We were waiting to see Sujani and Sandhya on the stage with camera in hand. Yes. Both of them along with other student were on the stage now. I asked Abilash to go near the stage to take a snap but before he could go near the stage, PT master of the school asked everyone to stand in attention for National Anthem. They were on the stage for 52 Sec singing National Anthem and function ended.

We went inside school and took them back to home.

Great nice end of School day for Sujani and Sandhya. Even though they took part only for singing National Anthem this time, they enjoyed their presence.

I felt actual enjoyment is not in the end result but it is in the process of engaging yourself in every step of the activity towards the end.
